The Runner Who Didn’t Run

Posted by enochfreeman on July 30, 2009

I mentioned having some kind of motivational problem to a friend, who replied, “And you’re a runner,” as in, it shouldn’t be hard for me to get my mileage in because I’m a “runner.”

I have to be honest. I don’t think I’m a runner. If I am, I’m a very bad one. I’ve made one out of three training runs so far this week. Last year, I basically only did the weekend long runs.

Quite honestly, I just need a swift kick in the butt. My goal is a 4:00 marathon, which was pretty ambitions when I set it three months ago. I’ve slacked off on training so much that I don’t know if it’s possible at this point.

I just need to remind myself why I’m doing this. If I were just running a marathon to run it, that would be one thing. The truth is that I’m running for a cause greater than myself. And that is reason enough to get up and run. Now if I can just remember that at 6 in the morning!
